ZOOLOGY: B.Sc. III Semester-Discipline Specific Elective-Parasitology

“Parasitology is an important branch of zoology that deals with the study of parasites, their hosts, and the interactions between them. This Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) book has been developed in accordance with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to provide undergraduate students with a clear, concise, and application-oriented understanding of parasitic organisms of medical and veterinary importance.
The book covers major groups of parasites, including protozoa, helminths (nematodes, cestodes, and trematodes), and parasitic arthropods. It highlights essential aspects such as classification, morphology, life cycles, transmission, host–parasite relationships, pathogenesis, clinical features, diagnosis, and preventive measures. Important parasites of public health concern, such as Plasmodium, Entamoeba histolytica, Leishmania, Ascaris lumbricoides, and Wuchereria bancrofti, are discussed in a simplified and systematic manner.
In alignment with NEP 2020, the content is designed to promote conceptual clarity, critical thinking, and skill development. It also incorporates interdisciplinary perspectives by linking parasitology with immunology, microbiology, and public health.
The book includes well-labeled diagrams, flowcharts, and assessment tools such as multiple-choice questions, short and long answer questions. It aims to support effective learning, enhance examination preparedness, and provide a strong foundation for further studies and careers in life sciences, healthcare, and research.”
