Beginning with Wood’s Despatch and Macaulay’s Minute, it explores how Western education, American missionaries, and Bengali influence catalyzed an Assamese literary renaissance. The section maps successive movements—the Orunudoi era, the Jonaki age, Abahon, Jayanti, and Ramdhenu—highlighting key figures. Part III examines fiction as a mirror of society and culture, providing detailed studies of Rajanikanta Bordoloi’s Miri Jiyori, Nirupama Borgohain’s Abhijatri on Chandra Prabha Saikiani, and Yeshe Darjee Thongchi’s Silent Lips, Murmuring Hearts, to demonstrate how narrative forms engage with gender, ethnicity, and modernity.
